Record next — Thursday lunch

Marked-up, record-ready scripts. Read once cold, cross out what doesn't sound like you, then record.

Upload Thursday evening → schedule for Friday 4:30am ET in Buzzsprout.

Your recording process▼

Goal: one solo episode, start to published, in about 60 minutes. No audio engineering needed.

Your current gear

  • Ordered: Rode PodMic USB + small tripod — dynamic, rejects car noise, plugs straight into laptop (~$200)
  • Backup: iPhone + Voice Memos, in a closet or parked car — $0
  • Also good: Samson Q2U or Shure MV7+ into a laptop — ~$90–$350

For car recordings: park, kill the engine/AC, put a jacket on the dash to cut reflections. The biggest quality jump is the room, not the mic.

  1. Thursday lunch: record in the car. Park in a quiet spot, engine and AC off, mic 4–6 inches from your mouth, angled slightly off to the side.
  2. Print the script. Read it out loud once cold. Cross out anything that doesn't sound like you.
  3. Record a 10-second test. Listen on your phone speaker before committing.
  4. Record in three chunks. Top, middle, close. Stop, drink water, restart.
  5. Fumble? Clap once, pause two seconds, say the sentence again from the start. Buzzsprout shows the clap as a spike.
  6. Upload to Buzzsprout. Turn on Magic Mastering — that's your entire post-production.
  7. Paste show notes. Set episode number. Schedule for Friday 4:30am ET.

Mic 4–6 inches from your mouth, angled slightly off to the side. Pace: ~150 words/min — slower than feels natural.

Scripts now write these phonetically inline the first time they appear, so you don't have to remember.

Order of attack (since you deleted the old uploads)▼
  1. Re-record the trailer first. It's 90 seconds and the sample most people hear.
  2. Then Episodes 1–3 (the launch block). Replace the AI audio in Buzzsprout — you can swap the file without losing the URL or stats.
  3. Episodes 4–5 stay unpublished until the first three are in your voice.
  4. Record the standard intro/outro once. Buzzsprout auto-splices it to every episode — you only ever record the body.

Weekly rhythm: Sunday outline & mark up script → Thursday lunch 20–30 min record in the car → Thursday evening upload/schedule → Friday 4:30am episode drops.
